We are pleased to announce the Singapore Android Developer Challenge 2011, a Singapore-wide Android Programming Competition targeted at Tertiary Students in Singapore. With a total cash prize of $27,000, this competition is the largest event on the Android Developer Singapore calendar.

Competition Details

Welcome to the Singapore Android Developer Challenge 2011! You can participate by developing an application, evaluating and scoring applications, or both. The sections below provide information about the eligibility of the participants, as well as the contest information and dates.

A winning application should be one that attracts a high number of downloads and also receive high ratings from the users of this application. The judging criterion of this competition therefore relies heavily on these two components: (1) number of downloads, and (2) user rating.

In October 2011, after the closing of the submission site, users will be able to download any of the submitted applications of their choice, test and then rank them. Users choosing to participate in the review process will download a special, free judging application that will allow the reviewing user to rate a submitted app along a number of criteria, resulting in a final score for each app. At the end of the voting period, applications will be ranked, with the community vote constituting 40% of the final judging score.

Along with the public ranking, a team of Motorola-selected judges will evaluate the applications. Their scores will constitute 60% of the final score.

For full details of the Singapore Android Developer Challenge 2011, please see the official Terms and Conditions.

Eligibility

The Singapore Android Developer Challenge 2011 is open only to applications created by full-time existing undergraduate/diploma students, or students graduating in 2011, of the following institutions:
1. Nanyang Technological University
2. National University of Singapore
3. Singapore Management University
4. Singapore Polytechnic
5. Ngee Ann Polytechnic
6. Temasek Polytechnic
7. Nanyang Polytechnic
8. Republic Polytechnic

Each application can be created by an individual developer or a team of developers. There is no limit on the number of members in the team, but each member of the team must be a full-time matriculated student of the above institutions. In addition, each individual or team must have a Mentor who must be a staff of the same institution as at least one of the members.

When you enter an application in the Singapore Android Developer Challenge 2011, we will make it available to all users for free on our App Directory webpage. If you intend to sell your application after the conclusion of the contest, you may submit a "trial" version of the application for judging. We recommend that your trial version include full functionality, but with a timed expiration, rather than including limited functionality with no expiration. Judges will evaluate your application based only on the functionality accessible to them, so it makes sense to provide the fullest range of capabilities possible in your contest app.

All submitted applications must be able to run on Android 1.5 or higher, and be in English.

For full details of eligibility, please see the official Terms and Conditions .

During the application submission, you must indicate which (one) category that your application belongs to. This is for the purpose of organizing the app for downloading by users during the judging period.
